Category 1 is the full qualification for working on stationary air conditioning, refrigeration and heat pump equipment. It covers installation, servicing, maintenance, repair, leak checking, recovery and decommissioning.
Anyone who installs, services, maintains, repairs, leak checks or decommissions equipment containing fluorinated gases must hold the right certificate for the work they do.
The course is open to all. Some hands-on experience with tools or pipework helps, and your pre-course book covers the basics. If you’re unsure, call or WhatsApp us and we’ll advise you before you book.
Five days on site. Evening and weekend courses cover exactly the same content and assessment, spread over more sessions.
Courses run with a maximum of 10 trainees, so everyone gets proper time on the equipment and one-to-one help.
The course fee includes your pre-course study book and introduction video, five days of tuition, all tools, equipment and refrigerant, your practical assessment and online exam, and City & Guilds registration and certification.
You are assessed in two parts: a practical assessment carried out on real equipment in our workshop, and an online multiple-choice theory exam. Both are taken on the final day of the course.
If you do not pass part of the assessment first time, we will talk you through what went wrong and arrange a resit.
When you pass, you receive the City & Guilds Level 2 Award in F-Gas and ODS Regulations, Category 1. City & Guilds also issues a digital credential you can share with employers.
The qualification does not currently have an expiry date.
